Privacy policy

Made In Song ("we", "us") is operated by an individual based in Italy. Contact: info@madeinsong.com. Because we are based in Italy, we handle personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and we also respect the privacy rights of US customers described below.

1. What we collect

  • Order and contact data: name, email address, billing details and order history, collected through our store platform. We never see or store your full card number: payments are processed by Shopify Payments or PayPal.
  • Song details: your answers to our questionnaire, such as names, nicknames, how you met, memories, your free-written story, preferred voice and musical style. These answers often contain information about another person (the person the song is for).
  • Free preview: if you ask for a free preview, we collect your email address and your questionnaire answers before any purchase. We use that email to send your preview link and, only if you tick the reminder box in the questionnaire, one reminder before your preview is deleted. We don't add it to a marketing list. To prevent abuse (limits per email address and per network, and a daily limit on the number of previews we create), we also store your country (detected by our hosting provider), a coded version of your IP address (a one-way hash, not the address itself) and the result of an automated anti-bot check.
  • Preview usage: when you open your preview, we record on our own servers whether you opened the page or the link in our emails, played the song (and how far), and clicked the unlock button, with first and last dates. We don't use extra cookies, IP addresses or browser details for this, and we don't share it with advertisers.
  • Communications: messages you send us, including revision requests.
  • Technical data: device, browser and usage data collected by our store platform through cookies and similar technologies.

2. Information about the person the song is for. By sharing details about someone else, you confirm that you are comfortable sharing them for the purpose of creating a personal gift. Please don't include sensitive information (such as health details, government ID numbers, or financial or account information) or anything you wouldn't want included in a song. We use these details only to create and deliver your song.

3. How we use your data and why

  • To create and send the free preview you asked for, before you decide to buy (steps you requested before entering into a contract).
  • To send one reminder about your free preview before it's deleted, only if you asked for it (consent). You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the email.
  • To create, review, deliver and revise your song, and to process payments and refunds (to perform our contract with you).
  • To answer your questions and provide customer support (contract and our legitimate interest).
  • To prevent fraud and abuse of free previews, including automated anti-bot checks, and to keep our service secure (legitimate interest).
  • To meet tax, accounting and legal obligations (legal obligation).
  • To send marketing emails, only if you opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email (consent).

4. How your song is made, and who helps us. Your song is created with the help of artificial intelligence. Free previews are generated automatically; your full song is reviewed by a person before it's delivered. We share data only with service providers that help us run the service, and only what each one needs:

  • Shopify - online store, checkout, order and delivery emails.
  • Shopify Payments and PayPal - payment processing.
  • Cloudflare - hosting and storage of your questionnaire answers, lyrics, audio files and gift page; the anti-bot check on our questionnaire (Turnstile); and the emails about your free preview (Email Service). Cloudflare also uses limited technical signals from the anti-bot check to improve its bot detection, under its own privacy policy.
  • Anthropic (Claude) - writes the lyrics from your answers, including for free previews.
  • Kie.ai and Suno - produce the music. They receive only the song title, the finished lyrics, the musical style and the voice choice, not your full story.

Some of these providers are located in the United States or other countries outside the European Union. Where required, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

5. We don't sell your data. We do not sell your personal information for money. Like most online stores, we may use advertising cookies and pixels (such as Meta's) to measure our ads and show them to people who may be interested; under some US state laws this counts as "sharing". You can opt out at any time through the "Your Privacy Choices" link at the bottom of every page. We never share your story or your song with advertisers, we don't use them to train AI models, and we don't use them in our advertising without your written permission.

6. How long we keep it

  • Free previews without a purchase: your answers, lyrics, preview audio, preview usage records, email address and the anti-abuse data described in section 1 are deleted automatically 30 days after your request.
  • If you buy: questionnaire answers (your story), lyrics, audio files and gift page: kept for up to 12 months after delivery, so we can handle revisions and you can access and download your song, then deleted. The anti-abuse data described in section 1 is deleted 30 days after your preview request, whether or not you buy. You can ask us to delete your data sooner at any time.
  • Order and payment records: kept as long as tax and accounting laws require (in Italy, up to 10 years).
  • Marketing list: until you unsubscribe.
  • Unsubscribe requests: if you unsubscribe, we keep a coded version of your email address (a one-way hash, not the address itself) so that we don't email you again.

7. Your rights. Wherever you live, you can ask us to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, object to or restrict its use, and withdraw consent at any time. Write to info@madeinsong.com from the email used for your order or your free preview. We'll reply within 30 days and won't treat you differently for using your rights. If you are in the EU, you may also complain to a data protection authority, such as the Italian Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (www.garanteprivacy.it). If your request is denied, you can appeal by replying to our answer and we'll review it again.

8. US state privacy laws. Based on our size, comprehensive state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act may not apply to us. We still offer the rights above to all customers, and we honor opt-out requests, including Global Privacy Control signals where our store platform supports them. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

9. Cookies. Our store platform uses cookies for checkout, security and analytics, and we may use advertising cookies and pixels as described in section 5. You can opt out of advertising through "Your Privacy Choices" and manage cookies in your browser settings.

10. Children. Our service is for adults. You must be 18 or older to request a free preview or place an order.

11. Security. We use reputable providers and access controls to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit who can access your story to the person who reviews your song.
